Oh yeah, big time! It’s the same with anesthesia during surgery. As you know, it’s so uncomfortable. There are laxative and stool softener pills, prune juice or prunes, Citris of Magnesia (I think that’s the name, it comes in a green glass soda-bottle looking container), enemas, suppositories, drinks with caffeine, especially coffee. Some people I know have even had a cup of coffee and a cigarette and that worked. Good luck!
Fioricet
Well you definitely need relief or you will end up trying to pass a mass so large that it’s very possible you will end up with rectal damage.
It isn’t that you need something to lubricate the fecal matter in your intestines, it’s that the pain relievers suppress the wave motion of your intestines to push the fecal matter down and out (parastolsis). Mineral oil and similar substances won’t do that.
Use a laxative before you get to that point. If you are on long term use of pain relievers you will be able to figure out how often you need to take the laxative in order to prevent dry, hard, large uncomfortable bowel movements.
Yes I am aware that sometimes people become addicted to laxatives, but in this case where medication is supressing your bowels than it’s necessary.

I’ve totally been there. Make your doc prescribe you Glycolax. It’s a white tasteless powder you mix in a drink at bedtime. Overnight, it’ll pull water from your system to your bowels and relieve constipation. It’s gentle enough that you can use long-term.
Don’t relay on regular laxatives like Ex-lax becausethey aren’t good for long-term use.
Good luck!

You should be taking a stool softener everyday. You can get it at the drug store. It’s in pill form. They aren’t laxatives, they will just make it MUCH easier for you to go. Don’t forget to drink lots of water and other decaffeinated beverages. Caffeine dehydrates and you need to make sure you have enough water in your bowels to produce movement.

it can be relieved by eserine or neostigmine subcutanuosly.

I recommend, unofficially, of course, warm prune juice with 30ml milk of magnesia. Pain meds do slow down GI motility. Have you tried Metamucil? A bulking agent might help. I wish you good luck.
Carisoprodol, Fioricet, Tramadol
That medication can really do that. I know someone with the same problem. They have pretty successful with drinking LOTS of water and cranberry juice & drinking a glass of prune juice 2X per day.
Taking a dose of Metamucil powder every evening mixed in iced tea or juice also assists digestion & can help with that.

As everybody has pointed out opiate pain medication will invariably cause constipation due to diminished GI motility. This is the one side effect nobody gets used to.
Usually a stool softener/bulking agent alone will not work as you will just have more bulk stuck in your intestines. You need something to improve motility which means substances with a laxative effect. Drinking enough water and activity are also important.
Things that work for many: prune-juice, combination products like senna with docusate or if something stronger is required: lactulose and then enemas (Fleet’s).
In a worst-case scenario you can end up with impaction which will force you to go to the ER.
