What Does Fioricet Do?

Fioricet is a prescription drug that is often prescribed for tension headaches.  Tension headaches can involve severe and lasting pain.  A tension headache may be severe and may warrant a visit to the doctor.  The prescription medication combines three drugs, each of which on their own, cause a powerful change in a person’s body.

First, Fioricet contains caffeine.  Caffeine is a drug we frequently consume without even realizing it.  What caffeine does is cause muscle contractions in the blood vessels and this in turn helps to stimulate blood flow and the whole central nervous system.  Acetaminophen is basically Tylenol, and this is a pain reliever and fever reducer.  Finally, there is butalbital, which is a barbiturate.  This drug causes the relaxation of muscle contractions.  When all of these drugs are combined into Fioricet, the effect is one of relaxation and extra-strength pain relief.

Fioricet is a prescription drug and can only be purchased from a pharmacy, online or in person.  Tension headaches can pang unexpectedly and distract a person from work, family life or a good night’s sleep.  If you or someone you know suffers from tension headaches, look into Fioricet.

This drug usually comes in capsule form.  It is orally ingested and its recommended dosage is one capsule every hour hours.  The maximum dosage is six capsules in 24 hours.  The drug combination is contained in several prescription brands.  These brands include Amaphen, Anoquan, Butace, Endolor, Esgic, Fioricet, Medigesic and Repan.  Patients should keep these medications out of the reach of children and in room temperature.  Do not place the bottle in unusually moist, warm or cold conditions.  Do not use the drug if it the bottle’s expiration date has passed.

It is also important to note that your doctor should advise you on the best way to discard your unused capsules.  Do not throw them away because in trash they could fall into the hands of children.  If you suffer from tension headaches then there is a problem that needs to be addressed.  Your doctor may ask you questions about your medical history and may recommend another solution to your headaches before recommending Fioricet.

That said, Fioricet is safe when used according to a doctor’s prescription.  It has been approved by the FDA.  It is commonly recommended in cases where patients have a severe and reoccurring problem with tension headaches.  Do not live with this pain.  Talk to your doctor about Fioricet.
