Are there any pain medications that will not get me high, but are stronger than Ultram?
I felt like hell when I went to sleep. I’ve had chronic neck pain since injuring some vertebrae in a fall 20+ years ago. Last night may have been the worst it has gotten since the original injury. One of those freak things, last night: assume the wrong position for a split-second, and — wham!
The nice thing is that I’m now pain-free, at around 6 am, having done nothing but drink a bit of coffee to make it so. This is not normal for me. I’ve gotten used to constant pain, like my TV hero Dr. Gregory House, except in a different part of the body. His Vicodin would help nicely, long-term, but I hate the withdrawals from it and don’t care to go down that road again. Nor do I know a doctor willing to prescribe a life-long, constant supply. It’s short-term, and with lots of questions only. This doctor has saved my life more than once, though, so I’m not switching doctors just to find one who is more pill-happy.
Oh, here’s the exact amount I took last night. Usually I only take one Ultram, but last night I took two 50 mg Ultram (tramadol) pills, along with two ibuprofen pills at 200 mg each. The doc is ok with my “doubling up” the Ultram when the pain is at its worst; she and I have discussed it already. We’ve also discussed Ultram/ibuprofen/other-stuff-I-take interactions already.
Loz — thank you! That sounds like a good idea, and I will call her (my doc) and ask her about that today.
Also — I’m allergic to morphine, so I can’t take that.
Butalbital APAP, Fioricet, Tramadol
